The single best thing I did for my weight loss was to give up diet soda and start drinking 64-96 ounces of water a day. It seems excessive but you have to remember how overweight I am - I was advised to drink half my weight in ounces of water a day.
The downside is that I have to pee all the time. The plus side, though, is that my skin looks fresher and clearer, I have way more energy, I’m saving a ton of money (all those bottles of Coke Zero add up) and losing weight is much easier.
So everyone, drink your H20!!!

I have knee pain. It’s not like, college-athlete-with-a-major-injury kind of knee pain or anything. It’s just, they ache real bad when I sit for too long without being able to stretch them for too long and stuff. I realize it’s 100% due to my obesity and sedentary lifestyle prior to 4 months ago. The problem is, the knee pain (and also, just my general out-of-shapeness) makes it kind of hard to do some exercises. So I usually stick to walking for my main form of working out. It’s obviously been working, because I’ve lost 45 pounds so far!
But last week, I did some dancing with friends at a party, for about half an hour or so, and had SO MUCH FUN that I wanted to try it again. Just dancing on my own with my iPod in front of the mirror, like a big fat dork. Again, it was a lot of fun, and I think I burned a good amount of calories (like 200 or so). However, today? My knees are killing me. They ache, and it hurts just to stretch them out. I can actually hear them pop!
I took some Advil, and just now I went out for a brisk 45 minute walk outside. That seems to have helped quite a bit. But I’m wondering, did I overdo it with the trying to dance? Or is this just the price of working out? Should I not try to do any type of exercise that affects my knees until I lose, like, the first 100 pounds?
I realize I should be consulting with a doctor or a personal trainer, but I’m currently completely broke, and cannot afford to do that. So, any and all advice would be most appreciated.
I desperately need more songs to add to my workout playlists. I have a couple: An 80’s & 90’s playlist, an old school hip-hop playlist, and a semi-current pop playlist.
Right now the one I’m listening to includes:
There’s some other stuff, but that’s about it. At some point, I woke up and realized 90% of everything on my iPod predates 2007. That’s pretty sad, you know?
If anyone has any suggestions for awesome workout songs, please send them my way! I’m open to pretty much anything… for reference some of my favorite artists of the last decade have been Fall Out Boy/My Chemical Romance/Panic at the Disco type bands of the mid-00’s, Cobra Starship, Kings of Leon, Adele, Maroon 5, Lady Gaga, Kanye West… uh… what else have I really listened to lately? I love Alison Krauss, but you can’t really work out to her. Anyways. Suggestions! Yeah.
** BTW, I’m really not all that old. I’m only 32. I just kind of got stuck in a music rut the last couple years where I’ve been listening to nothing but the Beatles and Pink Floyd constantly.
